The Alsatian vineyards now boast two new red grands crus
This is a great reward for the winegrowers who have been waiting for this distinction for about twenty years.

Since May 13, 2022, two Alsace Grand Crus have obtained the Grand Cru appellation: Kirchberg in Barr and Hengst in Wintzenheim. This is a first for Alsatian red wines because until now, only white wines were recognized in the vineyard under the AOC Alsace Grand Cru appellation.
Knowing the potential of their terroirs for years, the winegrowers have responded collectively to a strict set of specifications in order to gain access to the prestigious appellation. To qualify for this distinction, the winegrowers had to take into account: the age of the vines of at least 8 years, the density of plantation, the marketing of the wine after a minimum of one year, an identical typicity of the wine among all the producers of the terroir as well as the setting of yields limited to 40 hectoliters per hectare.
Often perceived as light and easy to drink wines, these Alsace pinot noirs are distinguished by a beautiful complexity, minerality, fruit and a hint of spice that give them a more gastronomic status.
However, it will be necessary to wait until the end of 2023 to see the labels mentioning "Grand Cru". Be patient!
