The Domaine
It was created in 1991 after the division of Charles Mortet's lands. It is now run by his grandson Arnaud, since the death of the father Denis Mortet in 2006. The surface of the estate remains moderate with a selection of the best climates, for an annual production of 55 000 bottles.
The wine
Nowadays in the blend of "Mes Cinq Terroirs" which was previously vinified on its own, "Au Vellé" is a parcel of old vines close to the castle of Gevrey-Chambertin and exposed fully east. The vintage aged 18 months and benefited from a magnificent terroir. It reveals velvety tannins, pure red fruit, and notes of undergrowth.
2000 faced capricious weather, but the missed Denis Mortet and his work of craftsmanship give us a very beautiful wine.
