The domain
Pierre Gaillard decides, despite his family's reluctance, to pursue studies in viticulture, and begins by acquiring the Clos de Cuminaille in Malleval in the early 1980s. Driven by a passion for vines since his twelfth spring, he also established estates in the south of France, Madeloc in Banyuls-sur-Mer and Cottebrune in Faugères in 2007, and notably made a name for himself by planting the future star of Côte-Rôtie, the La Turque parcel. He is now at the helm of 77 hectares of vineyards.
The wine
This historic clos, located on the upper half of the slope and facing East, is the first plot cleared, developed, and planted in 1981 by Pierre Gaillard. The light granites and its orientation bring minerality and freshness to the Syrah.
