The domain
Francis Vernay planted the first hectare of Viognier on the estate, which was then in polyculture, in 1938. The young Georges (also known as Mr. Viognier) settled on the estate in 1943, convinced that the cultivation of this grape variety constituted the future of the region.Located in Condrieu, it is highly recognized for the exceptional quality of its Viognier; indeed, Georges Vernay was the president of the Condrieu appellation. Christine Vernay succeeded her father in 1996, infusing her vision into both the vineyards and the winery.
The wine
At the place called "Maison Rouge," the Vernay estate offers us a Côte Rotie made from old Syrah vines. The wine is aged for 24 months in barrels, 30% of which are new wood, adding body and complexity to the wine. Having benefited from aging, the wine has developed sublime tertiary aromas.
