The estate
Created in 1750, the estate started with 12 hectares. Then, cut down because of financial problems, it will keep only 3 hectares located in the Volnay area. The arrival of Hubert de Montille changed the situation. At the beginning he was still managing a double life, sometimes lawyer, sometimes winegrower. He first stopped selling the grapes of the property in the wine trade and started to make his own wine from scratch. In a few decades, he became a reference in the region by having known how to respect the terroir of each climate through his mastery of wine making. Today, the domain is managed by his daughter Alix and his brother Etienne, perpetuating the tradition, they increase the domain to 20 hectares, the majority of which are in first and great growths, and now produce biodynamically.
The wine
Made from 1.26 hectares of clay-limestone soil, it was only to escape taxation at the time of the 1936 classification that "Les Grèves" was classified as a 1er cru. But the parcel is considered as the most qualitative and can claim the title "grand cru". Combining this with the success of the 2005 vintage, this Beaune will start with superb aromas of black fruits, blackcurrant, violet. A balanced and very refined mouth.
A magnificent first growth. Formidable with a rib of beef with potatoes or a roasted supreme of poultry.
