Every year, the spring announces the launch of Primeurs Week in Bordeaux, a true institution in the wine world! Our Chef Sommelier Victor González and his team just got back from the official tastings, and share with you their impressions on the 2022 vintage, already presented by professionals as historic.
A “primeur wine » in Bordeaux is the contraction of wine sold in primeur, which means in advance. They are put on the market just a few months after the harvest and then bottled 18 to 24 months later, after having rested in the cellars of the different Bordeaux castles. For the 2022 vintage, the wines will therefore be delivered during the first semester of 2025.
2022 is a great success on all the appellations. To face the lack of water, the vines adapted with lightly lower yields than the previous years. We have here grapes with optimal maturity, offering well-balanced and digest wines that already express themselves in their youth and are the promise of incredible aging potential. Winemakers have favored indigenous yeasts and celebrated the Cabernet Franc variety. The freshness of Merlot illuminates the right-bank wines and the left-bank offers deep and intense wines. Eventually, the quality is also guaranteed for the whites. The most beautiful terroirs will have produced wines of exceptional quality, some people even compare them to the 2009 vintage!
The big novelty this year is legislation now imposing to directly pay the wines taxes included. Only the delivery fees will then be left to pay when bottles will be available in about two years.
For more than two centuries, the great Bordeaux castles were selling their wines to restaurants, cellarists, and other distributors through intermediates, usually between the months of May and July. The Primeurs system allows the connoisseurs to reserve their wines in advance, and then be sure to acquire what they want, moreover if the references are sought-after. To buy in primeur is also an economy compared to the final price once the wine will be bottled. The prices set by the castles are indeed more likely to rise throughout the years, that is why we advise our customers to book them as soon as they are out.

- All wines are available by six ;
- You pay for the wines now, and for the eventual delivery fees in the first semester of 2025 when they are available ;
