Too often placed in the shadow of the famous Chardonnay, Aligoté, which is much less widespread in the Burgundy wine area (about 6% of the vineyard), is nevertheless gaining in prominence.
Indeed, this Burgundian grape variety has long been relegated to the less noble soils, and is often qualified as less qualitative, whereas in the past, it was used in the composition of Corton-Charlemagne! It is thanks to an association, the "Aligoteurs", which works for the promotion and the safeguard of the Aligoté, that it is today put forward again. Why did its reputation make it a second choice?
Because the plans of vines of aligotés are often less valued because of the easier and more profitable work of the chardonnay... It also suffers from less research than chardonnay or pinot noir, resulting in plots chosen for planting that are often not optimal for good quality. But this new generation of winegrowers (many of whom are members of the association) has revised its working methods and has understood that, associated with an adapted terroir, this grape variety could reveal all its magic.
Indeed, the result of the well worked Aligoté reveals a vast aromatic palette of apple, white flowers and a remarkable minerality. It is a fresh wine in the era of time that will seduce you in any occasion.
